Baltimore Woods Hike (05/12/2026)

It's springtime! Let's get out to Baltimore Woods and check out the wildflowers!

Meet at the parking lot at the Baltimore Woods Interpretive Center (top of the hill) on Bishop Hill Road in Marcellus at 10:15.

We will hike about 3+ miles. Bring your water, snack and poles for the steep sections. A copy of the map can be found here

For updates such as rain cancellations, check the hiking forum. If your plans change and you cannot attend, please cancel on the website or contact the hike leader.

OSC May Luncheon

For our May luncheon on Thursday, May 28 -we’re going back to a “fan” favorite- Olive Garden, 3147 Erie Blvd East.
We always have great food and service there and there’s an option to take home dinner. The luncheon is scheduled for 12:30, but it is always a good idea to get there by 12:15.

Please be sure you head for the Olive Garden in Dewitt, as there are several other ones in the vicinity.

As always, we appreciate registrations as it helps the restaurant to be ready for us.

Baldwinsville Paddle - First of the year (05/31/2026)

First of the season, we will launch from the dock beside the marina off Hayes Rd. There is a grassy/muddy area that worked the last time I paddled with folks.
Bring a snack, water and your protective vest. Life jackets. We will be heading out towards B'ville.
Meal afterwards at a local establishment.

Take exit 73 on the right onto Cherry Valley Tpke/US-20 E toward LaFayette about 0.2 mi, less than 1 min
Turn right onto Cherry Valley Tpke/US-20 E toward LaFayette 1.8 mi, about 3 min
Bear right at Apulia Rd/County Hwy-3 about 0.3 mi, less than 1 min
Follow Apulia Rd/County Hwy-3 4.1 mi, about 5 min
Turn right onto State Route 80/NY-80 about 0.6 mi, less than 1 min
Turn left onto Markham Hollow Rd 2.4 mi, about 5

There is parking but it's small.

Join us for a paddle around the perimeter of the pond to put in adjacent to the fishing dock. If there's sufficient water, we'll explore the outlet/inlet from the grassy spot. I have enjoyed the scenery, wildlife and peaceful water.

Paddlers must bring their own boat and equipment and must wear a PFD.

Weather Permitting, we'll meet up afterwards for a meal. If you want to join me at Onco Fermentations, there is food menu and beverages there and it's located off Route 11 in Tully. Route 20 to Tully, take a left on Route 11.

Kayak - Fish Island Dexter NY area of Black River (07/12/2026)

Kayak the Black River, Dexter NY.

The Fish Island launch site area is next door to Bob's Rafting in Dexter.
We’ll paddle up the river to Brownville, NY and back to the Boat Launch
This paddle is upstream from the dam, so some of it is reservoir-like.
Usually takes 2-3 hours depending on much time we poke around the shoreline. It's scenic.
If you’d like to do some whitewater rafting at the end, go for it. Very fast and difficult to paddle upstream.
The water is deep here, so touring, recreational, and inflatables should be fine.
Consider joining after our paddle at the Texas Roadhouse Rt 3 Watertown.
