OSC has a twice-a-year between-seasons book discussion group.  When you're done skiing and not yet up to full speed with biking/hiking, grab this spring's book and then discuss it with other members on Zoom on Thursday, May 5, at 7 pm.  Please go to the OSC calendar on this website to register for the Zoom link.

This spring's book is the novel Wayward by Dana Spiotta.  Spiotta, who has won awards for previous books, lives in Syracuse and teaches in the creative writing program at Syracuse University.

Her most recent book, Wayward, is set in Syracuse with a score or more of references to places we Syracuse-area residents will all recognize.  Count them as you read!  We'll see who finds the most.  Maybe there will be a prize!

There is plenty to talk about with this book.  Her themes include politics, climate change, pollution, regentrificaton of buildings, a metaphor of architecture, mother-daughter relationships, illness, pressure to attend the best college, racism, role of police, urban poverty, aging parents, changing marital relationships, white privilege, and more.

Read about Dana Spiotta here:  https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/authors/profiles/article/86225-dana-spiotta-is-finding-her-way.html

As you read, comment here.  Random commenters will get a prize!
