Onondaga Ski Club Website
Our semi-annual OSC book discussion will take place via Zoom at 7pm on Thursday November 12th.
The book is Finding Dorothy by Elizabeth Letts. It is historical fiction dealing with two story lines – the life of Maud Baum, the wife of Frank Baum who wrote The Wizard of Oz, and the making of the famous movie starring Judy Garland (also a character in the book) in Hollywood's golden era of the 1930's.
There is presently excellent availability in the Onondaga County Library System but it's a good idea to get your holds in soon. The book is available in regular text and as an audio book, ebook, and in large print.
There are many local connections to the characters in this book. Frank Baum was born in Chittenango in 1856 where his life and book are recognized annually with a parade and other events. His wife Maud, the protagonist of this book, was born in Fayetteville to Matilda Joslyn Gage, a leading member of the women's suffrage movement and an advocate for social change. Her family home is now a museum. Maud attended Cornell University and met husband Frank at a house party on Onondaga Street in Syracuse in 1881.
