High Altitude Health Hints

l Problems usually occur above 8,000 ft, some people at lower altitude

l Symptoms include headache, nausea, loss of appetite, insomnia with wakeful sleep and strange dreams, lethargy and sometimes a warm or flushed feeling in the face.

l Lasts 1 or 2 days, some people are never affected

l BOOST 02 spray canisters are usually available in the hotel or at a ski shop

l If concerned check with your doctor, maybe a prescription - i.e., Diamox

l Dehydration due to dry air - drink more water reduce alcohol intake

l Nosebleeds due to dry air - bring a saline nasal spray & use room humidifier.

l Sunscreen for face and lip gloss - altitude means less atmosphere to filter out burning ultraviolet rays of the sun...easier to get sunburn

l High altitude ski areas can be very bright and sunny requiring sunglasses do not forget them.

l Anticipate the cold and the warmth dress in layers

l PLEASE remember to breathe while skiing. Inhale going into the turn and exhale finishing the turn.
