Onondaga Ski Club
A Club For All Seasons
We’ve hiked the Camillus Forest Unique Area before and the primary reason for choosing this hike is that a new trail has one end that offers an impressive view to the north and east, while the other end looks to the south.
The total distance will be about four miles and we’ll take the perimeter trails except for the portion on Trail 7. (See the map.) These trails go through wooded areas where there are some fairly steep and slippery areas, and there will be some muddy sections. The total distance is about four miles but there is an easier “escape route” about half way through.

As mentioned above, a major reason for this hike is the views and bad weather may lead to a postponement.
To get to the Camillus Forest, follow Rt.173 north from the Fairmount four corners, go past the Erie Canal and Reed Webster Park, cross Nine Mile Creek and then make a left turn on Thompson Road. About 1000 feet down Thompson Road is a parking lot on the right. Please get there a few minutes early so we can get organized.
